This scholarship is a step towards my future, a future that wasn’t even relevant to me five years ago.
My interest in the Culinary Arts began in my eighth grade cooking class. It was only a two month class, yet I loved every minute of it. It was my first time really cooking which lead to the first meal I prepared at home. I server a pizza made with simply biscuit dough to my family. I found myself enjoying the preparations, cooking and finally serving the meal. This lead to my immediate decision to enroll in Freehold High School’s Culinary Academy. The entrance essay I wrote was actually not enough to join the academy. My mother happened to call the school to see if I got into the program. Sadly I was not accepted but I was able to take the place of a student that decided to refuse the offer. I feel sorry for whoever wasted such a great opportunity. My four years in this program have awakened my passion and stride to open my own restaurant.
Studying at Johnson & Wales will be my final frontier of schooling before I take a taste of the real world. The long hours, hot kitchens and dirty skillets is what I need.
Financially I am not ready to reach my goal; this scholarship will be the giant step towards my career.
